Festive Tips
Welcome to the Festive Tips page. Over December, you will find hints and tips that will help to make your role a bit easier.
Festive tip 1:
There is a ‘How To’ guide to returning your ILR data in 2011/12 that answers some queries on the single ILR, such as transmission numbers
Festive tip 2:
Changing start dates between academic years for learners confuses the success rates methodology – so please don’t do it
Festive tip 3:
Having problems finding documents or pages on FE websites? Why not set up a search engine that only produces results from specified URLs. Here’s one we made earlier… http://goo.gl/vqy41
Festive tip 4:
We have published a downloadable e-calendar of ILR returns for different types of provision. Try it and let us know what you think
Festive tip 5:
Please be aware that if a learning aim is shown as unfunded on LARA that status is unlikely to change
Festive tip 6:
Super users can easily create additional accounts on the Learning Records Service portal so there is no need to share user IDs and passwords. If in doubt, speak to them or call the LRS Customer Helpdesk on 0845 602 2589
Festive tip 7:
Having difficulty working with flat file and single ILR codes? For 2011/12, we have provided a Field Mapping Conversion tool to help you
Festive tip 8:
Please only log your query once with the Service Desk (0870 2670001) and wait for them to return the call. Calling more than once creates confusion and repeat calls
Festive tip 9
Have you had a look at the MI Library on the Data Service website? There is information there based on local authority regions that can be used to benchmark your performance and aid planning
Festive tip 10:
Please do not to email batch files or screenshots of learner information to the LRS Customer Helpdesk. They will advise if they need you to send any information and it should comply with the Data Encryption and Password Protection Guide
Festive tip 11:
Use the ‘Funding Viewer’ and ‘Data Viewer’ on the Learner Information Suite to look at individual learners (search by name or learner reference) and identify errors
Festive tip 12:
Please don’t change the planned end dates for learners as this affects success rates. If the learner exceeds the expected duration then record this in the actual end date
Festive tip 13:
Stay in the information loop - sign up to our web alerts – you can specify the pages of interest so you only get information you want! On feconnect, just join the groups that interest you – Data Issues is a popular one…
Festive tip 14:
Time for a break for MI Managers - but remember early returns make it easier for the Data Service to help you with any issues and to avoid last minute stress with errors, transmission issues and bad weather….
