The information authority’s first annual report highlights the pivotal role it has played in removing confusion from further education success rate reporting and in beginning the task of reducing the burden of data demands placed upon colleges and training providers.
Bill Rammell, Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, acknowledged the impact the information authority had made in his opening statement to the report, which will be published towards the end of October.
“I recognise the good start the information authority has made to its task of improving the use of data and reducing burdens,” he said. “I want to reinforce awareness of the importance of its work and provide an incentive to move forward with even greater determination.”
Graham Jones, the Authority’s chairman, said in his forward to the report that he was delighted with the progress that had been made.
“There are exciting times ahead and major opportunities to increase the pace of data reform,” he added. “Critical to this is the creation of the new Data Service – the first single source of information collection and dissemination for further education and training.
“This is a logical next step and I look forward very much to establishing effective joint working arrangements and to implementing clear standards around information collection, transformation and reporting for the benefit of the sector as a whole.”
